In my last post, I wrote "Be careful what you wish for; you just may get it!" Here I was dreading the thought of Newt Gingrich as the Republican nominee on the off chance he might actually win. He could be our next president! Consider that thought and wince.
I gather from reading various journalists today that the DNC and Obama are hoping that Gingrich will be the nominee, on the belief that he'll be easier to defeat in a general election than someone like Mitt Romney. I call that amazingly selfish. We can never predict what may happen in politics, and to even contemplate Newt Gingrich as president is hugely painful to me and should be equally painful to those who are democrats in principle, and not just in name.
Who will run as a third-party candidate in 2012? Just hope I'll have someone to vote for besides a retreated Ralph Nader--Nadar is starting to resemble Newt in his grandiose views of himself.
