“I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat, or a prostitute.” ― Rebecca West, The Young Rebecca: Writings, 1911-1917

What I didn't know--UGH!
Just read Gail Collins column in today's New York Times. Did you know that we, the taxpayers, provide $18 million to each of the two major parties for them to throw their conventions. I sure didn't. After all the talk we've had to listen to about the necessity of cutting teachers, teachers' pay, uniform services, school lunches for impoverished children, and I could go on for hours, but won't, to lower the deficit, we can afford $36 million for conventions. When do we finally get angry enough to demand change?

We don't. I think most people are of the opinion that politicians are going to do what's best for politicians before they do what's best for the people they represent. And we've given up.
