It's confirmed--it's about race!

I stopped a while back wondering why so many Americans hated Barack Obama.  The hatred made no sense based on political positions.  Our president is about as close to a socialist as George Bush, Jr.  Indeed, many of Obama's policies follow Bush's down the line, which is pathetic for a Democratic president.  So I concluded without reading any scientific surveys or polls that the haters hate because of race.  Somewhere in their tiny minds the thought of a black president and a black family in the White House tortures them.  But then I'm rather confident in my own judgments if I believe I'm looking at all sides of the issue so had no doubts about my conclusion.

Today, I read a study that proves me correct.  Using both implicit and explicit questions, photos, and other means of eliciting feelings that people will not discuss directly, the study shows that a majority of Americans still harbor racist attitudes, but get this, of Republicans the number is 79%.  Not that the Democrats are free of taint, more than half of those also are racism, whether they admit to it or not.  And to be direct, I thought the 79% a low number for Republicans.  For anyone reading here of my age, you will remember the days before Nixon.  The working class, the uneducated and undereducated, were mainly Democrats, because the Democrat Party catered to their needs.  But when Nixon ran he was the first presidential candidate to use code words to denigrate minorities, and it was done with one purpose, to bring into the party those who were racist but typically voted for Democrats.  It worked and has worked since.

So, we really don't need any more of an explanation why Americans would put a wanker (sorry for the British-ism but it was the first word that came to mind) like Romney in the White House.  He offers the same old, same old, policies that ruined our country and will do so again.  But hey, better to bring the country down than to have a black family live in the White House--upstairs, that is!
