I've been staying away from politics lately, mainly because it's so depressing to realize that a majority of Americans, or close to a majority, care nothing about their fellow Americans or anyone else that is not American. But today I can't resist. I just saw a clip of the most egregious political moment in my lifetime, and that includes the Willy Horton ad when Bush senior was running.
Today Paul Ryan, whose budget will insure that every program for the poor or near poor will be eliminated by the Federal government, went to a soup kitchen and washed a pot to show that he cared. (That soup kitchen gets its funds from state and federal government and private funding, the state and federal financing which he plans to eliminate.) He arrived after the soup kitchen was closed and all the dishes were washed. His people had asked that a few dishes be left for Ryan to wash. The woman in charge said it was the worst bit of baloney she's ever seen in politics, and she's sorry she let him in. She's right, and why I ask did she let him in? How extraordinarily ugly on the part of Ryan! And honestly, how can Americans be so gullible?
And to the last comment on my blog and the person who wrote it. If you happen to know a Swede who doesn't like his government, that doesn't make for an argument. In fact, the vast majority of Swedes like their government and think America's method of handling health care and other public programs is ridiculous, and that does make for an argument--it's documented, not hearsay. In Sweden, as in every other country, people dislike their governments, whether on the right or the left, but that's not an argument for eliminating European socialism.
