In the Pink!

The Susan G. Komen Foundation reversed its decision a short while ago to defund Planned Parenthood.

"We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives," the Komen foundation said in a statement.

All of us who wrote to Komen and donated to Planned Parenthood should cheer up--we do make a difference.

For the future, I suggest that all those who care about women's health issues donate their money to organizations other than Susan G. Komen.  After paying its executives $400,000 a year and above, Komen donates half its funds to awareness (which is at least in part self promotion for Komen) and gives far too little to research for prevention and cure.  So when you pass one of those pink-ribboned cans don't be tempted, give instead to National Breast Cancer for research or Planned Parenthood for screening.  Do we really want to promote pink buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken?
