Food Stamps, Catholicism, and Newt Gingrich!

First, it's a blatant lie that more people are getting food stamps under Obama; more people applied for, and got, food stamps under the Bush presidency, about a half million more to be exact--documented by Bush's Secretary of Agriculture.  And what if it had been true--and it's not!  Don't food stamps (a program vigorously supported by Republicans when it came into existence because of the money it provided to farmers) exist so that people who don't have enough money to purchase food for themselves and their children don't starve.  Do we want them to starve? What monsters these Republicans are!  They call themselves Christians but have no belief in Christian principles.

Watched an "Upstairs Downstairs" episode the other night (set in 1904 England) where Sara, the under housemaid talks about how her father would take his children to the local hospital, where the porter would come out with a tray of scraps from the patients' dinner, and that's how her family fed itself, by pouring through the scraps--the scraps from diseased people.  Is this what Republicans want to return to?  Apparently, yes.

And something of an apology to the Catholic Church.  I was outraged that no Catholic leaders pointed to Gingrich as the race baiter he is.  Today, or yesterday, forty Catholic leaders accused Gingrich of race baiting.  How about excommunication?  That would be far more effective, and justifiable as well.

Finally, let's remember why more people are on food stamps and it's because of Republican policies. Democrats didn't bring this nation to its knees, Republicans did.  But racists hate so much that it doesn't matter.  Facts might interfere with their visceral hatreds!
