Hard to Stay Away!

If we each could define our DNA as an acronym for our personalities, mine would no doubt be "Do Not Agree."  Politics has been in my blood from the very first political discussion I had with my brother John, when Eisenhower and Stevenson were running for president.  I was for Stevenson and John, for Eisenhower.  Of course, I'm now the liberal and John the Republican, but which of its many branches, I haven't a clue, hopefully one of the saner ones. And as all "child brides" insist, I was just a baby at the time.

So, can I really stand by and not comment on Obama, gay marriage, and his "my views are evolving"?  Please stand up like a man, Mr. President--you're for or against; stop already with the focus groups.  Would he have taken an "evolving" position on civil rights--one wants to think, of course not.  But with Obama one can never tell.  His principles are as come day, go day as Romney's.

Back to my actual readers, if I have any left.  How many of you on the left are as conflicted as I am about the coming election?  I certainly don't want the Republicans to regain the White House, although as a country we're in such decline that I have the occasional, self-defeating view of let's get it over with!  For those who don't understand the economy and think that a new president, with different views, will bring us back to the after-war years of "Father Knows Best" and unprecedented growth, you need to read more.  It's not going to happen.  The world economy has changed forever.  We need to change our aspirations; we're not all going to be millionaires (hardly billionaires), but if we manage our resources better and more fairly, we can still guarantee a decent life to all our citizens, with health care, educational opportunity, and a clean environment available to all.  My words of wisdom, "it's time to grow up."
