Yesterday, against all good judgment, I placed a wine glass of non-alcholic beer (perhaps that was the problem, the lack of alchol) and lemonade on the shaky stand on which I keep my Mac Book. Of course, I knocked over the glass and now my Mac Book won't turn on. Worse, also against all good jugment, I haven't backed up in ages and I have my third novel on the Mac but nowhere else.
I have a reservation to go to Maine on September 4 and planned to stay there thru Thanksgiving to finish my novel. Looks like I'll be there for a lot longer since I'll have to start from scratch. Hard to believe I can be so stupid, but remembering that I spilled both tea and champagne on my IBM thinkpad at least three times, yes I can be so stupid. I doubt I'll use an Apple again, as I hate Pages, its word processor application, and it's document filing system. And Lenovo (took over from IBM) sent me three keyboard replacements without charge for the thinkpad. Apple (good old Steve Jobs) charges a fortune to replace a keyboard and you can forget about the mother board--might as well spend another $1,000 plus on a new computer.
Sigh!
I'm using my iPad to write this but that's only a temporary measure. Hooray, just remembered that in lieu of backing up, I sent the various chapters of my third novel to myself via email. Not sure if I saved everything new but there's enough there to continue working. Life is not easy, but it just got easier!
