Sex and the Bishops!

It's definite!  American Catholic bishops hate the poor, have given up all sense of what Catholicism is  about, and all should be defrocked.  Why this pronouncement?  Cardinal Dolan of New York has agreed to give the blessing at the Republican Convention, for politicians who hate unions, hate the poor, hate immigrants, hate blacks (even despite the few blacks in the party), hate the poor having health care, hate, hate, hate.

As I posted earlier this week, there are a wealth of Catholic encyclicals that support unions, universal health care, redistribution of wealth, and all those decent human behaviors that Republicans abhor.  The only encyclical American bishops support is the one that condemns contraception, practiced today by some 95% of Catholics at one time or another.  But the Catholic bishops (all men, of course) concern themselves with just one encyclical, the one that condemns the use of birth control in any form other than abstinence during a woman's fertile periods.  How many children were born because their mothers used the Rhythm method--very many, a number of them my nieces and nephews.

Of course, this focus on sex to the exclusion of all other of the Church's teaching didn't preclude the abuse of young children (mainly boys) by the American clergy (some of them bishops), nor did it preclude the bishops ignoring the evidence of abuse so that even more children were abused.  Why is that?  I can only surmise that since it was mainly men and boys involved, the bishops didn't concern themselves.  It is, after all, woman that the patriarchal church wants to contain, control, castigate, and, of course, assure their continued existence in the lowest rungs of our society.  Islam has nothing on the Catholic Church when we review its treatment of women.  If the Catholic bishops thought they would have any success putting women into burkas we'd be in burkas.

I urge the nuns who are currently fighting with the Catholic bishops over their role in the church to leave the Church.  Align yourselves with another Christian church, one that refuses to condemn women to live in subjection to men.  The Catholic Church doesn't care about you one wit. The feminist revolution is just beginning.  Fight for your rights!
