Whatever!

I've spent the last 48 hours trying to reconfigure an old computer (Thinkpad from about 2006-2007) as I'm not willing to pay $500-$1,000 to get my lemonade gorging Apple fixed.  The only good thing I can say for sitting in one's robe for two days staring at a computer screen is it made me forget about the Republican convention. Then, of course, I have another catastrophe.  The man who looks after my house in Maine called to tell me that my water pipe is leaking, draining the town spring, and they will first have to dig up my front garden to find the shut-off valve and second he will have to fix the leak, at what price I have no idea.  Sigh!

Thanks Mr. Bernacke for the 1/2 of one percent interest rate on my savings   (You knew, for sure, I was planning to get political somewhere in this post!)  But back to my computer. I spent some five hours or more trying to get my wireless mouse to recognize the cursor and two other corded mice with no luck, so finally I decided to download all my documents (my life in words) to my flash drive and reset the computer to factory condition, which meant, of course, that all my applications, bookmarks would be lost. But it did restore my mouse.  Hooray.  Of course, I never tried to reload my documents because first I had to reload my applications, which took me about five hours.  Then when I go to reload my documents my USB port doesn't recognize it.  I'm in a panic as I'm afraid the flash drive is defective and I've lost some ten years  of work.

Finally, I realized that that the device driver must have been corrupted, reinstalled it, and got back one of my USB ports--the other is gone for good.  My Apple had been so reliable for two years that I had forgotten the agony of trying to fix problems on computers.  Now I remember!

I suppose I'm something of an optimist, as I am thinking if I don't touch the Apple for a week or so it will magically begin to work again. But then I'm also assuming that Mitt Romney will lose the election.  I'd risk losing all my documents for assurance that he will lose.  Someone reassure me. Please!
