I couldn't look at the front page of the New York Post (posted on Google) which shows a man right before his death. The man had fallen onto the subway tracks and a photographer got his picture as he was trying to climb back onto the platform. He didn't make it and died.
What world do we live in? No one tried to help the man back onto the platform, including the photographer, who had time to take pictures but not time to give him a helping hand. I'm reminded of the Kitty Genovese murder in the 1980's when Ms. Genovese was killed in a courtyard in Queens and none of her neighbors who heard her screams came to her rescue, not even to call the police. In some countries they have what's called "Good Samaritan" laws which oblige bystanders to help someone in trouble. One would think we wouldn't need such laws, but apparently we do. Mayor Bloomberg--here's something you can really get your teeth into!
