A friend was thinking of starting a blog to encourage the red states to secede. They keep threatening to, and I want to encourage them to do it. The blog is a great idea and if he doesn't do it soon, I will. I suspect I would get lots of interest and encouragement. Not only are the people who talk about seceding boring, they have no idea what they're proposing. Most of them don't read newspapers or books, and the majority who watch Fox news ("fair and balanced") haven't a clue how government actually works. Do they know, for example, that red states get more back in dollars than they send to the federal government? Where do they think the money is coming from? From the blue states, of course.
How nice it would be for New York State to keep its own dollars and use them to offer better education and job opportunities to its own citizens. Why keep throwing good money after bad to southern states like Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, the obesity capital of the world. If we took away the money we send them for schooling and medical treatments, we could provide medical insurance to all those in the blue states, without argument. And no more electoral college. Our president would win by popular vote. Fox News would move to Texas, hopefully although it's doubtful that all those who now work for Fox would actually want to live there. Perhaps the Donald would move there as well. For that alone, secession would be worth the price.
Any suggestions for naming the new countries? Ideas are welcome.
